Pictures are mine, and I got some here (The Acne outfit – this is how i’ll wear my sweater this autumn) and here (The picture of the magazine. This is the magazine my group made for magazine journalism last year)

When sitting on a dirty, rather unpleasant, looking floor in an airport in Washington DC while eating weird tasting chips and drinking hot water, there is not much to do but mind-drift away to other places you would rather be. For me the day dream includes no more airborne hours, but two feet on the ground back in Kingston and a student life of friends, Pinot Grigio’s, get-togethers, heavy books and late night runs by the river Thames. Throw in central soirees, Kingston University, lecture halls and a brand new apartment and I am sold. That life sounds pretty damn good don’t you think? Yep, all I want now is for my next and final London year to start.

Being one who finds bliss in the changing of seasons, I am excited for the colder autumn weather to find me draped in my new burgundy Acne Canada. Autumn can come at me, and despite my promise to save more and spend less, a new coat for autumn is a tradition that I won’t forgo. This season’s pick is a double-buttoned mustard, blue and green checked wonder from – no shouts of surprise please – Zara. I’ll be all wrapped up in colours this term and I won’t let the grey London weather overcome me this year.

My excitement does not stop there. This autumn I am also enthusiastic for a season with less working, and more leisure, hours. I have decided to say adios to my way-to-many Friday’s night hours (and we are not talking the rocking the dance floor moments, but the swinging a restaurant in a striped tie and uniform) and hello to new pastimes. I am going to start painting. No joke – I just signed up for a six-week course! I also have tons of books pilled up and I am planning to read my newfound favourite, Iris Murdoch, and descriptions of foggy, Victorian London. I am going to design and get my first tattoo. I am so ready for my autumn to be filled with all of this and many nights of red wine, lit candles and a paintbrush– don’t worry, I don’t think they’ll be on E-bay anytime soon. As the people who know me will agree on, I have worked a little too much for the past four years and put everything else a side. I believe that we all deserve some me-time and I have procrastinated my share for far to long. It’s time for a catch up!

My only worry is, being the materialist that I am and knowing too well that money does make me happy, that I will feel awfully poor at times. But sometimes you just have to suck it up and say to yourself that it is more to life than the thrill of a weekly shopping trip to Zara. So this year I say cheers to leisure, pleasure (and don’t worry – shopping won’t be totally excluded) and my two favourite F’s – food and friends. I think you should get on it girls and decide what you want for the next year, because trust me – you deserve it!

EDIT: I thought I published this early, but apparently it didn’t work. So doing it now. Still no internet in our new flat, but hopefully will have it sorted by tomorrow.
